You entered a crosswalk and a driver turned into your path. After the shock, it can be hard to remember which signal was showing or where the car first appeared. If a pedestrian is hit in a crosswalk, medical needs come first; the details of the intersection should be preserved as soon as practical.
What evidence helps explain the crossing?
Save the intersection and travel directions, traffic signals, marked or unmarked crosswalk layout, nearby camera locations, witness names and photographs of the vehicle and scene. An officer’s report may help, but witness or video evidence can add context. California’s Driver’s Handbook describes crosswalk rules and driver duties; fault still depends on the full facts, including signals and conduct of everyone involved.
What about an injury that develops later?
Tell a healthcare professional about the impact and all symptoms, even if you initially walked away. Keep visit summaries, imaging reports, referrals and work notes. Do not infer from the ability to walk that there was no injury. The CDC notes that concussion symptoms may emerge later; serious warning signs require emergency care.
When may legal help matter?
Legal review can help if the driver disputes the signal, a surveillance recording may be overwritten, or care and income losses are significant. It may also help evaluate available liability and other coverage. No crosswalk location automatically determines a claim outcome.
